Semaglutide is a medication that has been approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that works by increasing insulin production and reducing appetite.

Recently, semaglutide has also been studied for its potential use in weight loss. A higher dose of semaglutide (up to 2.4 mg) has been tested as a weight loss treatment and has shown promising results in clinical trials. It has been found to help individuals lose weight by suppressing appetite, reducing calorie intake, and promoting feelings of fullness.

However, it is important to note that semaglutide for weight loss should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional and as part of a comprehensive weight management plan. It is not a standalone solution and is typically recommended for individuals who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related health condition.

What is the Skinny Shot Weight Loss Program?

The Skinny Shot Weight Loss Program involves a once-weekly injection of the medication combined with a reduced-calories diet and increased physical activity. This can be combined as part of your peri-operative weight loss journey. Semaglutide injections should be stopped at least one week before and after your surgery.

Your weight loss journey at De La Cruz Plastic Surgery is available to all patients. We can begin treating patients prior to their surgery, following their surgery, and any patient who’s primary focus and goal is weight loss.

During your consultation, Dr. De La Cruz will evaluate you if you are a candidate to receive semaglutide injections for weight loss. Dr. De La Cruz will discuss your overall aesthetic goals and develop a skinny shot treatment plan for you.

This will include a combination of the following:

Semaglutide weekly injections – This is either performed in the clinic or at home.
Monthly office visits to track progress and titrate dosing of the medication for appropriate weight loss while minimizing side effects.

Can you take the Skinny shot before and /or after liposuction or a tummy tuck procedure?

Semaglutide medication (Skinny Shot treatment) can be done in preparation for your aesthetic procedure. If your BMI is over 35 and you are planning to have a breast reduction or a tummy tuck procedure, you can take the skinny shot prior surgery to reduce your BMI in order to minimize your risk for complications after surgery.

The Skinny Shot is also ideal to be taken after a liposuction or tummy tuck procedure to maintain the results of your body contouring surgery.
